Blog #2 Learning design

So far in my study life, I think what I dislike the most is the “feeding spoon teaching method”. This kind of teaching mode is very common in China. I think this method is just for the teacher to force the students to study in order to complete the content in the textbook. This is a very unscientific teaching method. Each student learns at a different speed. Everyone has their own learning mode. Some students may have strong learning ability, but some students have slower learning ability. If you can keep accumulating the knowledge you don’t understand, in the end, students may choose to give up.
After coming to Canada, I found that the teaching mode here is completely different. The teaching mode here is that the teacher will let the students use the group discussion mode, and the students can discuss their ideas with other students, which can make the students produce different results. Discuss what you know with your classmates and help each other so that you know more.
Finally, I would like to share my own learning method. I will learn what the teacher will teach before class. Because English is not my first language, previewing in advance can help me understand what the teacher is saying during class. , and then I would suggest to write down the notes the teacher said in class, which can improve learning efficiency and better review.

Lots of interesting ideas! Definitely, the “feeding spoon teaching method” may be less effective in some cases. Still, many students prefer to know exactly what to do and how and would select quizzes instead of creative project work. How can teachers encourage students to get outside of their comfort zone?

I would also be hesitant to say that direct instruction is a “very unscientific teaching method.” It is based on the behaviourist learning theory, which is well-researched and helpful for learning facts, for example.

It would also be helpful if you could elaborate more on an overview of the characteristics of the approach and how it could be applied to teaching your Interactive Learning Resource topic.

Please do not forget to provide in-text references and citations!

Hi, Claire. I agree with your point of view on direct teaching, direct teaching is a more traditional way of teaching. Students can discuss and solve problems with classmates and teachers in the learning process. This learning method enables students to directly ask the teacher for answers when they encounter problems, which improves the students’ self-learning ability and learning participation. As you mentioned the six steps in your blog, I really agree with the way you teach. Although this method is traditional, it is the most efficient.
