First, for interactive learning resources, I think the most important thing is to communicate with my learners. Like the topic we discussed in our second blog post, modern education has moved away from soup-based teaching, and teachers need to devise more ways to help students more vividly understand what they’re learning.

So I will adopt the method of real-time teaching. If there is a highly contagious situation, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the necessity of online teaching, I will try to adopt the method of weekly fixed video lectures, considering that some students may not be stable The Internet supports their real-time online interaction, and I will also record the content of each class, which not only facilitates the students who cannot access the Internet to study smoothly, but also facilitates the students with language barriers (such as non-native English, language with certain communication barriers) , independent living) repeated viewing and learning.

In my blueprints, I teach students to watch relevant learning videos on apps like YouTube. This method was chosen because YouTube has the ability to translate subtitles, allowing students to choose their native language for reference and understanding. The app is available on mobile phones and computers, and is suitable for students who do not have a computer.

In view of the current online teaching environment, I will insist on creating an Office hour at a fixed time every week to solve the problems of students online in real time. Considering that students cannot enter the live real-time, I will also set up a discussion thread. The discussion here Let everyone see, and also avoid the situation that I did not reply to the questioner in time.

Finally, there will be a presentation and a quiz to test students’ academic performance in this class. Through exams and speeches, I can learn how the students understand the course and what areas I need to improve, which will be very helpful for my future teaching.

So far in my study life, I think what I dislike the most is the “feeding spoon teaching method”. This kind of teaching mode is very common in China. I think this method is just for the teacher to force the students to study in order to complete the content in the textbook. This is a very unscientific teaching method. Each student learns at a different speed. Everyone has their own learning mode. Some students may have strong learning ability, but some students have slower learning ability. If you can keep accumulating the knowledge you don’t understand, in the end, students may choose to give up.
After coming to Canada, I found that the teaching mode here is completely different. The teaching mode here is that the teacher will let the students use the group discussion mode, and the students can discuss their ideas with other students, which can make the students produce different results. Discuss what you know with your classmates and help each other so that you know more.
Finally, I would like to share my own learning method. I will learn what the teacher will teach before class. Because English is not my first language, previewing in advance can help me understand what the teacher is saying during class. , and then I would suggest to write down the notes the teacher said in class, which can improve learning efficiency and better review.

Learning How to Blend Online and Offline Teaching | EdSurge News

I am going to share one of my learning experiences. I still remember the first time that I step into the ESL class in my high school. Because English is my second language therefore l need to pass the ESL class before l can graduate from high school. At first l was a little nervous since l don’t know how this class work. What should we do in this class, is it interesting or boring? Those such of things pop in my mind. But as time goes on, the way that teacher teaching the class is way different than our class in China. Teacher will show movie and a lot of interesting things to motivate us to learn. Moreover, we will have group discussion and presentation in some classes. I think it is a great way to motivate in the class and a chance to make some friends. We will also be very satisfied. When we can get a high score in a group assignment or a speech, being praised by the teacher makes us feel very accomplished and motivated to do the next group discussion, although sometimes we communicate with our classmates. There are some difficulties, but when we know the result, I think the difficulties are something I can overcome. I learned about constructivism, behaviorism, and cognitivism through this learning experience and in conjunction with what we’ve been talking about this week. Learners perceive learning as a link between stimuli and responses. Their underlying assumption is that behavior is the learner’s response to environmental stimuli. Teachers need to master ways to shape and correct student behavior and create an environment for students that eliminates inappropriate behavior as much as possible. Then, Cognitivists believe that human cognition is the result of the interaction between external stimuli and internal mental processes of the cognitive subject. The task of teachers is not only to teach knowledge to students, but to stimulate students’ learning interest and motivation. Students are the subjects who actively and selectively process the information provided by external stimuli. Furthermore, the constructivist view consists of two parts. One is the concept of knowledge. Objectivism believes that things exist objectively, and knowledge is the representation of things. The second is the perception of students. Each student is an individual with a different understanding of each issue. Therefore, the differences of each learner constitute new and valuable learning resources. For me, I think constructivism is more widely used in modern education. Today, teachers often put students into small groups. In group study, students can listen to the opinions and ideas of other classmates, which also cultivates their divergent thinking. It is also very helpful for students’ creativity.
